In your 20’s

Life is exciting, your social life is booming and you look a million bucks. You’re totally invincible right? Well, not quite!

A lot of skin damage that can affect you in later life is done in your teenage years and early 20s. The most important thing you can do for your skin during these early years is always use sunscreen. UV exposure causes pigmentation, and it only takes 5-7 minutes of exposure to stimulate Collagenase, an enzyme that destroys collagen, which results in sun damaged skin. I recommend a full SPF30 UVA/UVB sun protection such as Murad’s Oil Free Sunblock.

By now, you should have also started a basic skincare regime. Ensure you’re using a cleanser and light moisturiser, morning and night. I love the Murad Refreshing Cleanser and Skin Perfecting Lotion

In your 30’s

By the time you’re 28, the ageing process has begun, but the signs don't appear until you’re in your mid to late 30’s. These early signs of ageing include fine lines and a pigmentation. To fight back, you need to up the ante on your moisturiser, and go for a more hydrating product, like Murad Essential C Daily Renewal Complex which also fortifies skin against future damage.

It’s also time to add a wrinkle prevention serum to your daily routine. A Vitamin C Serum is ideal as it neutralizes free radical damage which causes pigmentation, uneven skin tone, lines and wrinkles. The Murad Active Radiance Serum helps reveal your natural radiance and improves texture and tone.

Next stop, eye cream. If applied morning and night, it will help keep those fine lines at bay!

In your 40’s

In your 40s, your skin tends to retain less moisture, so dehydration lines start to appear, and you might also notice a loss of skin elasticity due to hormonal changes in the peri-menopause years.

To keep skin plump and supple, start using products with collagen building ingredients like Peptides and Retinols, which can help reverse some of the damage. Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion promotes healthy collagen and hydration levels, for more youthful looking skin.

In your 50’s

At this stage your skin may start to look quite a bit thinner and struggling to retain moisture. With a decline in oestrogen at this age, further loss of collagen may lead to deeper lines and sagging.

Regular facials and masks are essential at this age. Cell turnover is around every 60-90 days, so exfoliation is also a must. Ensure to use something gentle as you don't want to damage your skins fine tissue. Murad’s AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser provides gentle exfoliation to improve texture while improving cell turnover.

And remember, prevention is the key. It’s also beneficial to consider advanced facial treatments such as Collagen Induction to strengthen the connective tissue along with Photo-Rejuvenation to reverse any sun damage. These are great at any age to help strengthen skin cells, and encourage collagen production for an improved skin tone and texture.
