At what age should you start preventative ageing treatments and skincare?

You’re never too old or too young to begin using efficacious, high-performance skincare products tailored to your skin’s specific type and condition. Even children who have acne or sensitive skin need to use dermatologic products. That said, products that are marketed as anti-ageing typically contain retinol, glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid and other exfoliating and hydrating ingredients. These will help to remove the dead layers of skin that contribute to a dull, sallow complexion, fine lines and wrinkles, patchy rough spots and even breakouts. As I mentioned, it’s never too early to care for the skin and while anti-aging ingredients may not be appropriate for those who have yet to enter their 20s, they’re certainly ideal for adults who want to be proactive about preventing and treating the visible signs of ageing. To ensure skin continues to look young and supple, I recommend an anti-aging skincare routine whenever you begin to notice these symptoms. The earlier, the better!

As a percentage, how much can your skin condition be attributed to lifestyle and environmental (food, stress etc) and how much can be attributed or controlled by skincare products and routines?

It’s very easy to let what I call cultural stress invade our lives in today’s modern lifestyle. We’re busy. We’re multitasking. We’re commuting. We’re trying to keep up with ourselves and our racetrack culture at the expense of health and genuine happiness.  And while stress affects all of the organs in the body, it is most visible on our largest organ – our skin.

I believe that youth is a reflection of how you feel, how you look and how you live. That’s why, to live younger, I believe it’s important to eat water-rich fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly, try to maintain a positive mental outlook, and apply efficacious topical products. Living younger is about the interconnection of all of these things.

I know that hormones can have a significant and damaging effect on our skin. How can Murad skincare help relieve and overcome these issues?

I always say, skincare is really healthcare. When we use products that nurture and protect our skin, we are actually protecting our body from the harmful effects of the environment. For example, if you go out in the sun without an SPF moisturizer, not only will you end the day with a bad sunburn but you also will physically feel the effects of the sun. You may end the day tired and with a bad headache. This works in reverse as well. When we are suffering from an aliment internally, the side effects can be seen through how our skin looks.
