Spring clean your skincare!
It’s warming up and spring is definitely here! Winter may have left your skin dry dehydrated and flaky – this is why it is important to mix up your skincare regime for the new season.
These are our top tips for healthy, glowing skin this spring:
Assess what you have. Many of us have products that we simply do not use. Pull everything out of the cabinet and toss anything that isn’t working for you – or even better pass it on to a friend. Make sure to also remove anything over two years old, most skincare products will have outdone their shelf life around this time. Then make sure to book a free consultation with your therapist at Caci, they will be able to make professional recommendations based on your concerns and what your skin currently needs as well as giving you advice on how to best use your skincare.
2. Number 1 Rule: Make SPF your BFF!
Everyone needs to make sunscreen a daily habit. It is a fact that wearing sunscreen year-round will reduce premature skin ageing (less lines, wrinkles and pigmentation!), but most people don’t think about wearing it until the temperature starts warming up. So if you aren’t already wearing a moisturiser with sunscreen- now is the time to start! We recommend our Skinsmiths Daily Defense SPF50+, it’s lightweight, shine free, provides UVA and UVB protection while being non greasy.
3. Keep Well Hydrated
Your skin is largely made up of water and although we naturally maintain hydration levels it is easy for these to drop due to climate, heat, pollution, air conditioning, drinking and poor diet to name a few causes. To combat this make sure to drink water throughout the day – don’t wait until you are thirsty, this means that you are already becoming dehydrated. Plus water isn’t your only option: herbal teas, fruits and vegetables will help to maintain and replenish your body fluid levels.
Exfoliation promotes healthy, youthful skin and is important all year round- after winter we all feel like a new fresh complexion. Some people tend to go overboard and this can cause irritation. At Caci we suggest exfoliating 1-2 times per week and then treating yourself to an exfoliating treatment in clinic this spring. We recommend the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser and Skinsmiths Overnight Glow (exfoliate while you sleep!) plus our Microdermabrasion skin conditioning treatment. Whatever you choose make sure to stay away from scrubs with harsh beads or ingredients that could cause tiny tears in the skin.

5. Keep your brushes clean
Oil and bacteria can get caught in the brush bristles causing blocked pores and breakouts. Stop putting off this chore and give your makeup brushes a good soak: Use a warm glass of water and gentle shampoo, rinse well then let brushes dry upright in the sun (for extra bacteria destroying benefits!).
6. Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
Gently cleansing and exfoliating the face removes dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria, but it can also strip the skin of needed hydration. Water -- not oil -- in the skin keeps it plump and smooth, whereas dry skin loses elasticity, making it more prone to developing wrinkles. Facial moisturisers lock in that water by either blocking it from escaping or drawing water from the inner dermis.
Mastering the "how" of facial moisturisers is the easy half of the equation. For instance, it's better to apply them to damp skin, and they should cover the face as well as the neck. Selecting the appropriate moisturiser can be tricky and since moisturisers stay on the skin for extended periods of time, the wrong ones can wreak pore-clogging, skin-irritating havoc. To avoid unwanted breakouts and unnecessary expense, pop in to see us and we’ll recommend what’s right for your skins current condition. Our favourites are the Murad Nutrient Charged Water Gel and Hydrodynamic Ultimate Moisture.
